U.S. companies that use social media primarily to deepen customer loyalty spend almost twice as much on this emerging channel as competitors who use it for brand awareness, customer acquisition and other core marketing purposes, according to national survey results jointly released by COLLOQUY and the Direct Marketing Association (DMA).

EEC Launches YouTube Marketer Education Channel
The Direct Marketing Association’s (DMA) Email Experience Council (EEC) today announced the launch of a YouTube channel created to help marketers better understand and access the benefits of the email channel. Videos clips on the EEC channel feature insights from well-known email industry experts and allow visitors to review, link to, and syndicate relevant content. Initial episodes address subjects such as subject line best practices, email for branding purposes, and email marketing analytics.

DMA Statement on Postal Service Rate Hike Request
The Direct Marketing Association (DMA) and the DMA Nonprofit Federation (DMANF) today asked the Postal Regulatory Commission (PRC) to dismiss the United States Postal Service’s (USPS) request to increase postal rates by ten times the rate permissible by law. The petition was filed by the Affordable Mail Alliance, of which the Direct Marketing Association and the DMA Nonprofit Federation are supporting members. The Affordable Mail Alliance’s members are commercial and nonprofit organizations. Commercial mail accounts for 85 percent of the Postal Service’s revenues.

Direct Marketing Association Announces New Chief Executive Officer
The Direct Marketing Association (DMA), the leading global trade association of businesses and nonprofit multichannel marketers, today announced it has appointed Lawrence M. Kimmel as its new Chief Executive Officer. Mr. Kimmel is the former Chairman and CEO of Grey Direct Global Network, a leading direct and digital agency, where he was responsible for up to 49 offices in 42 countries. He will begin on Monday, August 2 and be based in DMA’s New York headquarters.

DMA Strongly Opposes USPS Request for Rate Increase
The Direct Marketing Association (DMA) strongly opposes the United States Postal Service’s (USPS) request for a rate increase. In its presentation today to business mail customers, USPS said that mail volume declined by 36 billion pieces (or 17 percent) between 2007 and 2009. DMA strongly believes that a postal rate increase at this time will cause mail volumes to decrease even further, and irreparably harm the financial viability of the Postal Service going forward.

Senate Rejects House Proposal on FTC Expansion; DMA Led Charge
The Direct Marketing Association (DMA) is pleased to announce that, early this morning, the Senate three-times rejected a House proposal to drastically expand the powers of the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) across all but a few sectors of the American economy. DMA led the charge in the fight to keep these FTC expansion provisions out of the Restoring American Financial Stability Act (H.R. 4173) as the final text of the bill was negotiated by a formal Conference Committee.

The Direct Marketing Association (DMA) today released its Ethics Case Report for February 2009 – February 2010. During this period, the Committee on Ethical Business Practice (“Ethics Operating”) conducted in-depth reviews of the promotions and practices of 34 companies. DMA’s Corporate & Social Responsibility (CSR) and Customer Service staff handled an additional 4,000 complaints and inquiries from consumers about direct and interactive marketing practices.

DMA Praises FTC for Improving Accuracy of National Do Not Call Registry by Addressing List Hygiene Issues
Direct Marketing Association (DMA) president and CEO John A. Greco, Jr. today praised the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) for improving the accuracy of the National Do Not Call Registry by hiring an outside contractor to remove disconnected, reassigned and abandoned phone numbers from the registry. The action, which was encouraged and prompted by the DMA, was highlighted in the FTC’s report to Congress Regarding the Accuracy of the Do Not Call Registry pursuant to the Do-Not-Call Improvement Act of 2007 (DNCIA).

DMA Praises Postal Service Governors for Embracing New Ratemaking Regulations
DMA commended the Postal Service Governors’ decision to use the Postal Regulatory Commission’s (PRC) new regulations to adjust future postal rates. According to the Postal Accountability and Enhancement Act that was signed into law in December of 2006, future price increases of mailing services adjusted under the new system must be capped at the rate of inflation.

DMA's "Multichannel Marketing in the Catalog Industry" report reveals that successful multichannel marketers have consistent and integrated standards across all channels. The study — which is a comprehensive roadmap for best practices and trends in channel integration within the catalog, retail, and e-commerce infrastructures — also reveals that nearly 70% of respondents reported increased multichannel sales over the prior year, and 59% reported increased catalog circulation in 2006.

MULTICHANNEL MERCHANT today announced the winners of its 2007 MCM Awards at a luncheon ceremony at the Annual Conference for Catalog & Multichannel Merchants (ACCM). The awards, which honor both business-to-business (B-to-B) and business-to-consumer (B-to-C) marketers, were culled from a total of 64 finalists from the print channel, 37 from the Web channel, and 11 cross-channel in 17 categories.
